Marketing kits are becoming a necessity in today’s world. We get more request for these everyday as client’s want to set themselves apart from their competitors. These kits can be used to launch new products, create a first impression with potential clients and even be used as thank you gifts. Although these kits can be very time consuming, we have broken up the process into three easy steps.

The first and most important step in creating a successful marketing kit is to select a theme. The theme determines the overall look of the kit and the products that will go into it. We typically present our clients with three themes or concepts and narrow it down to one. The theme should tell a story that will connect with the client’s targeted audience. For this project we went with the theme “Your Journey Starts Here!” for our summer marketing kits.

The second step in creating a successful marketing kit is to select the items and quantity. In order to create a strong kit, the items selected should match the theme. During our team brainstorming session we created a large list of items and start to narrow it down from there. A couple things to keep in mind when selecting the items, are the budget, the quantity, and the size of the items. Branding everything not only gets the client’s brand out there, but also ties everything together. For this kit we chose trucker hats, sunglasses, mini water-guns, fidget spinners, and koozies. To ensure that there was enough to go around for a group of friends, we packed five units of each item into every kit.

The final step in creating a successful marketing kit is to design the packaging. The packaging is a crucial part of the step. You could get away with putting the items in a plain box, but custom packaging takes your kit to another level. Imagine the packaging as a vehicle to deliver the goods or a book containing stories waiting to be told. First impressions matter. The first step in creating the package is to develop the build. How do you want the packaging to open and the layout of the items to fit within? The second step is the artwork on the packaging. The artwork will be a key part in tying the entire theme or concept together. This is where you tell the client’s story. For this project we decided to design a box with clasps that opened up like a book with custom inserts. We kept the artwork simple, yet bold with a fun print all over. When the box is opened, the left panel tells our story.

An extra step could be to run a social media campaign where the consumer posts the kit on their social media accounts. Another option could be augmented reality. The consumer would simply download an app, point their phones at the packaging, and an augmented image would appear on their screens. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating a unique kit that your consumer will talk about and remember for years to come.
